KIT 207 week 1 Barrel
Barrel made for KIT207 pre-tutorial 1 self study module
this Barrel was made in blender, a 3D modeling program, that we are learning how to use as part of the course.
I made this barrel by following this YouTube tutorial. In the tutorial, it shows how to cut loops (split the face (side) of a given object) and extrude region. extruding makes any part of an object (face, edge, vertex) move any direction you want, while keeping the connections with its other parts. using this while having the sides of a cylinder selected made it expand like a balloon, without effecting the flat top and bottom, resulting in the basic shape of a barrel.
From there I inset faces into the top and bottom of the barrel. essentially I cut a smaller circle into the large circles, then pushed it inwards, like boring a hole in ice, then letting the ice slip down, but keeping the sides connected. after that, I made the metal rings that wrap around the barrel. the way I made them was by cutting two loops near the top and bottom, scaling them up (making them bigger, to scale), then adding a Modifier named "solidify" which essentially turns flat objects, say a piece of paper, (2D) into objects with volume, a cube (3D). this made the rings thick, without me having to make a whole new object to add to the barrel.
Then I painted the object by using overlapping the UV map (essentially the folded out net of the 3D object), by overlapping the cut out quarters of the barrel I only needed to paint one quarter of the barrel, and then the rest of it got painted along with it.
and that's pretty much it!
